Bags and bundles, cases and various other things, often accompany a person when they leave the house. If one happens to be a knitter, it’s almost certain that knitting supplies are brought along, no matter what else is left behind.
That applies to me as well. I almost never leave the house without taking my knitting with me, and I pull it out at every opportunity. Even at concerts, if that’s the case, sometimes to the dismay of those with me who may prefer not to draw attention.
When one is invited for coffee at a fellow knitter’s house, it’s even less of an issue to take out your handiwork, settle comfortably into an armchair (read: knitting chair) and start knitting in rhythm with the conversation.
And there is rarely a shortage of topics to discuss, but no one keeps track of the words spoken, or how much yarn gets used up while chatting. Wisdom literally flows from the knitters and others present at any given time. New patterns, yarns, what was knitted over the summer or just yesterday, what’s currently on the needles and what’s planned, how best to do this and that, and so on. In between, there’s talk of grandchildren (an essential topic), the state of the economy, a bit of politics, and then the inevitable – the weather.
It must be considered cosy, and perhaps very close to being the best thing, to knit during such visits. May there be many more! 🙂
